Checking Car Accident History in the UAE

In this article12 sections

Check a used car’s accident records with its chassis number, then compare the results with repair documents and a physical inspection. A result showing no recorded accident does not establish that the car has never been damaged.

Start by matching the VIN on the vehicle to its registration documents. Ask the seller where the car was previously registered and whether it was imported. Those answers help you choose relevant records instead of assuming one UAE search covers its entire life.

Collect the right information before searching

  • Photograph the accessible VIN or chassis identification with the seller’s permission.
  • Compare the number character by character with the registration and any history report.
  • Ask for previous registration details, import documents and repair invoices.
  • Ask specifically about collision repairs, replaced panels, structural work, airbag deployment and water damage.

If the seller gives you a screenshot, check its date, source and vehicle identity. A cropped image with no VIN or report reference is difficult to verify.

Our VIN checking guide explains how to compare the identity details before relying on a record.

Where to check available accident records

The Abu Dhabi Police accident inquiry lets you search using the chassis number and the security text shown on the page. Read the returned entries and ask the issuing authority about any unclear report.

Ask the seller to obtain relevant records from the authority that handled the incident or previous registration. Where another official portal offers a vehicle inquiry, check its stated coverage before treating the result as complete.

For an imported vehicle, request records from its previous country as well. A UAE record alone cannot answer every question about repairs before import. Match dates, identifiers and any available damage photographs rather than relying only on a report’s headline.

Record what each search actually says

Keep the search date, source, VIN, reference number and result together for your own purchase assessment. Distinguish an empty result, an unavailable service and a confirmed record. They are different outcomes.

How to assess a recorded accident

An accident entry is a reason to investigate, not enough information on its own to judge repair quality. Ask for the original damage photographs, the repair invoice and any measurement or calibration reports relevant to the work.

  • What was damaged? Ask which panels, structural areas and safety systems were affected.
  • What was repaired or replaced? Compare the invoice with the visible vehicle and the seller’s description.
  • What remains uncertain? Identify inaccessible areas, missing records and checks that need specialist equipment.

A small-looking photograph may not show everything behind a bumper. Equally, a repaint by itself does not prove structural damage. The useful question is whether the evidence explains the work and supports the present condition.

What the RTA Technical Vehicle Status Report covers

The RTA Technical Vehicle Status Report is a separate service covering available vehicle information such as ownership history and insurance validity. RTA states that this report does not include vehicle accident data and requires the owner’s agreement to disclose the data.

At our check on 20 October 2026, RTA lists AED 120 in total: AED 100 for the report and AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fees. Confirm the current charge on the official service page before paying. The report can contain gaps and does not replace an inspection.

Do not buy this report expecting a complete list of accidents, repairs or insurance claims. Use the service description to decide whether it answers your particular question.

Compare the history with the car

Give the inspector the seller’s claims and relevant records before the appointment. Ask for observations to be tied to specific areas and photographs: for example, a repair sign at a particular panel or a concern at an accessible structural mounting point.

A private accident-damage inspection can assess the agreed accessible areas. Structural measurements, dismantling and specialist safety-system checks may require separate arrangements. Ask what was inspected, what was not accessible and what follow-up is recommended.

Before paying a deposit, resolve any identity mismatch or unexplained structural concern. Ask the seller to put material repair disclosures in writing. If the evidence remains incomplete, you can pause the purchase instead of treating uncertainty as a clean result.

Questions about UAE accident-history checks

Does “no accident found” mean accident-free?

No. It means the chosen search returned no matching accident record. Coverage, reporting and vehicle identity must still be considered.

Can a history report tell me whether repairs are safe?

Records can help identify the work to investigate. They do not establish the current condition of hidden areas or verify every repair procedure.

Should I reject every car with a recorded accident?

The decision depends on the damage, repair evidence, current findings and your tolerance for unresolved questions. Obtain a suitable inspection and any specialist assessment before deciding.

What if the seller refuses to share the VIN or allow checks?

Ask for the reason and explain what you need to verify. If identity, history or inspection access remains unavailable, consider whether you have enough evidence to proceed.
