Build the BMW inspection brief

A badge and mileage do not define a useful inspection. Generation, engine, transmission, driven wheels, factory options, modifications, history, location and the customer’s decision all change which evidence matters.

Identity and specification

Record the VIN, displayed mileage, registration context, model designation, body style, engine and visible equipment. A 330i, 330e, M340i and M3 can look related while requiring different powertrain, brake, cooling, suspension and diagnostic attention.

History and seller context

Review available service records, invoices, inspection reports, repair estimates, key count and seller statements. Documents support the physical story but do not replace it. Missing records are uncertainty, not automatic proof of poor condition.

Body and repair evidence

Choose mobile or workshop access

Neither setting is automatically “complete.” Choose the location around the evidence required and confirm access before the appointment.

Mobile BMW inspection

A mobile check can support a buyer at a seller, dealer or suitable private location. It works best with safe level space, good light, permission, access around the vehicle and a legal road-test route.

  • Useful for identity, body, cabin, functions, accessible mechanics and scanning.
  • Underbody visibility may be limited without a lift.
  • Traffic, parking or seller restrictions may shorten the road evidence.

Workshop BMW inspection

Warnings disappear before viewing

A warning that was photographed earlier but is absent at the appointment still matters. Readiness information, stored history, voltage context and the customer’s evidence can help frame the question, but they may not reconstruct everything that happened before inspection.

ROAD TEST

Symptoms need specific conditions

A vibration may depend on road speed, load or wheel temperature. A transmission concern may appear only when cold, hot or manoeuvring. A suspension noise may need a particular surface or steering angle. Define the trigger before the drive. If traffic, permission or safety prevents reproduction, record the restriction and recommend a controlled follow-up rather than declaring the symptom absent.

MODIFICATION

Non-standard parts change the baseline

Wheels, suspension, intake, exhaust, coding and engine software can change behaviour, tyre clearance, emissions context, diagnostic results and future repair choices.
