Prepare for an RTA vehicle inspection by confirming the required test, booking through the official channel where required, and addressing known faults before attending. Inspector provides private preparation checks; we do not issue the official RTA test certificate or guarantee a pass.
The RTA vehicle inspection service lists approved centres and current appointment rules. Its Vehicle Technical Inspection Certificate is valid for 30 days. This is different from the period of vehicle registration.
Choose the right test and centre
Tell the official centre whether the visit is for registration, renewal, export, a retest or another purpose. Check that it handles your vehicle category and any special requirements before travelling.
Prepare the vehicle before the appointment
- Describe known faults. Write down warning lights, unusual braking or steering, fluid loss and recent repairs.
- Check visible items. Review tyres, lights, glass, wipers, seat belts and secure number-plate mounting.
- Keep access clear. Remove unnecessary items that prevent access to the areas being inspected.
- Check modifications. Ask the authorised centre about approval documents for the vehicle’s actual modifications or tint.
- Confirm visit requirements. Follow the appointment instructions for identification, vehicle details and any documents specific to your case.

What a private preparation check does
A private check can document accessible concerns and recommend diagnosis or repair before the official test. Agree the scope in advance: a visual check, diagnostic scan and measured test are different services.
Inspector’s private report does not register the car, renew its licence or approve modifications. The authorised testing service determines the official result. Keep the two bookings and their charges separate.
Budget for the official test separately
At our check on 20 October 2026, RTA lists the standard light-vehicle technical inspection at AED 170 including Knowledge and Innovation fees. Retests, other categories and additional services have separate charges. Confirm your selected service’s total on the official RTA fee schedule.
Any private inspection, diagnosis or repair is additional. Ask for the agreed scope and total price before authorising that work. Our private inspection prices explain the separate Inspector services.
If the vehicle does not pass
- Read the official report and ask the centre to explain any unclear item.
- Have the cause diagnosed and obtain a written repair scope.
- Keep the repair documents and arrange any required follow-up checks.
- Confirm the applicable retest timing, location and total charge directly with the authorised centre.
A completed repair invoice does not automatically establish a passing result. Do not clear warning codes or conceal a fault as a substitute for diagnosis.
Questions before an RTA test
Does an Inspector booking include the official RTA test?
Inspector’s inspection is a private service. Book the official test through an authorised channel and confirm its arrangements separately.
Will a preparation check guarantee that the vehicle passes?
No. It can identify concerns within the agreed scope. The official centre applies the requirements and decides the result.
Do I need a test for a newly registered car?
Check the exemption criteria for your ownership, vehicle age and registration situation on the official service page. Do not rely on a purchase date alone.
Does an official test establish an EV’s battery capacity?
Do not treat an official roadworthiness result as a traction-battery capacity report. Ask separately about the method, access and limitations of any battery-health assessment.
What if the car is unsafe to drive to the centre?
Arrange suitable recovery or ask the official provider about an appropriate inspection option. Do not drive merely to keep an appointment.
